This AI hardware is on the Inference level and as well training level. This AI is not only for self-driving cars. Besidess, they have far significant goals, such as the realization of humanoid robots.
Recently, Tesla showcased various AI technologies on AI Day. Furthermore, Elon Musk showed intentions to recruit the best AI Engineers. And, the reason is to realize his far remarkable goals. Elon Musk shared his thoughts. “It will take a lot of work to make it function, which is why we need talented individuals to join us and solve the problem,”.
Mainly, the webcasts like “Battery Day” and “Autonomy Day,” were the highlights. We will list some of the special activities on Artificial Intelligence Day in Tesla.
Tesla’s humanoid robot and the idea of Elon Musk
On Artificial Intelligence, Elon Musk and the company presented this Humanoid Robot. Tesla Engineers and Executives spoke about the Computer Vision and Dojo Supercomputer. There was a brief interlude during which an alien go-go dancer appeared on stage. He was dressed in a white bodysuit with a shiny black mask as a face. It was not just a Tesla stunt. But, it was also an introduction to the Tesla Bot. It is a humanoid robot that Tesla is currently developing.

The Dojo-training chip
Tesla director Ganesh Venkataramanan unveiled the company’s computer chip. They built it wholly in-house and use it to power Dojo, Tesla’s supercomputer. The dojo is a neural network training machine. They will analyze enormous amounts of camera imaging data using it. This chip is four times quicker than existing computing systems. Furthermore, It is at the heart of Tesla’s AI architecture. Tesla will hand over the Dojo-trained AI software to users via over-the-air upgrades.
The chip featured 7-nanometer technology. Venkataramanan proudly displayed the device. Moreover, It has GPU-level computing, CPU connectivity, and twice the I/O bandwidth. He explained the technical details of the chip. Tesla wanted to own as much of its technology stack to eliminate bottlenecks. Last year, Tesla launched a next-generation computer processor from Samsung. But it could not avoid the global semiconductor shortage. That has plagued the auto industry for months. Musk claimed that they had to rebuild specific vehicle software. The reason was the need to substitute in different processors shortage.
The purpose is to improve bandwidth and lower latencies for extraordinary AI performance. Venkataramanan also demonstrated a “training tile” that combines numerous chips to increase bandwidth. It has a computational power of 9 petaflops per tile and a bandwidth of 36 terabytes per second. The Dojo supercomputer is made up of the training tiles.
Full Self-Driving (FSD) and Beyond
At AI Day, Several speakers accepted Dojo as an e advanced driver assistance system that is not FSD. Nevertheless, It is designed for Tesla’s FSD vehicles. The powerful supercomputer involves many components. It includes simulation architecture which will be available to other automakers.
Elon Musk stated that they do not intend to Tesla cars only. He further added that those of us who have seen the entire self-driving beta. They will appreciate the Tesla neural net’s rate of learning to drive. Musk stated that Dojo would be operating next year. Artificial Intelligence and computer vision issues
During AI Day, Tesla reaffirmed its vision-based approach to autonomy. It employs neural networks to allow the car to operate anywhere via its “Autopilot” system. Andrej Karpathy, Tesla’s head of AI, defined its design as creating an animal from the bottom up. That animal wanders around, detects its surroundings, and behaves intelligently and autonomously. It learns using observations.
So they are developing all the mechanical components of the body, along with a nervous system that contains all of the electrical components. The Autopilot’s brain, specifically the synthetic visual cortex,” he explained.
Karpathy demonstrated how Tesla’s neural networks have evolved. Further, how the car’s visual cortex processes visual information. One needs to keep in mind that this visual cortex is the brain for Autopilot.
There are two major problems. One of them is Temporary occlusions and the other is road markings that appear earlier in the road. And Tesla is working to solve with its computer vision architecture. For example, if a sign 100 yards away announces the lanes will merge. The computer may have forgotten when it got to the merge lanes.
To address this, Tesla engineers used a spatial recurring network video module. In this module, different aspects of the module keep track of various parts of the road. Furthermore, this module also forms a space-based and time-based queue. Both create a cache of data that the model can refer to when attempting to make road predictions.
Tesla demonstrated its 1,000-person manual data labeling workforce. They also showed that how it auto-labels various clips. The AI team then employs fantastic simulation to create “a video game with Autopilot. The good thing is that users are using all this real-world data. The simulations are beneficial when dealing with data that is difficult to get or label.
